14WCEE Outstanding Paper Awards Announcement

To encourage young engineers and researchers to publish their works and to develop in their professional fields, the Huixian Earthquake Engineering Foundation (China) and the US - China Earthquake Engineering Foundation (USA) have decided to award the outstanding papers for the young researchers (born on and after January 1, 1973) presented at 14WCEE. About ten papers will be given the awards during the conference. The papers should be nominated by the Coordinators of Regular Sessions and Conveners of Special Sessions and will be reviewed and decided by an expert committee organized by the two Foundations.

About Wenchuan Earthquake Special Session (Special Session 31)

The massive M8.0 Wenchuan Earthquake on May 12, 2008 resulted in tremendous losses of lives and properties, the global earthquake engineering community shows deepest concern over the catastrophe. The Organizing Committee of 14WCEE has decided to organize Wenchuan Earthquake Special Session (S31) during the Conference and welcome submission of abstracts related to the devastating Wenchuan Earthquake. Please send your abstracts to the Secretariat by Email (secretariat@14wcee.org or 14wcee@gmail.com) before July 10, 2008.

About Wenchuan Earthquake

The death toll from the devastating earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province froze at 69,172 nationwide as of 12 p.m. June 17, Beijing time. 374,159 people were injured and 17,420 missing. After the occurrence of the tragic event, many experts in the world earthquake engineering community expressed their sincere concerns and solicitude to China. We express heartfelt gratitude to them.

Financial Support to Attend 14WCEE

The Conference has received the sponsorships from Huixian Earthquake Engineering Foundation (China) jointly with US-China Earthquake Engineering Foundation (USA), Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering (JAEE) and Risk Management Solutions, Inc. (RMS) who explicitly support the attendance of the Conference. With their generous support, the Conference is now capable of providing limited financial help especially for young researchers (born on and after January 1, 1973) from developing countries to attend the Conference. With the limited resources, the Conference will mostly support those in need for their registration fees and in few cases for their accommodation and travel fees as well. About Reservation for Building 9, Jiuhua Spa&Resort

All the rooms at Building 9 of Jiuhua Spa & Resort, have been overbooked, therefore,we are not able to accept any further room reservation for Building 9 made after May 23, 2008.

For those who have made the reservations for Building 9 before May 23, 2008, but have not yet paid the deposit, please deposit the payment at your earliest convenience prior to May 28, 2008, otherwise your reservations will be cancelled automatically.

About Field Trips

Due to there are few attendees to join the Field Trip PR1 / PT3 / PT4 / PT5 / PT6, the Secretariat decides to cancel the above mentioned six tour routes.

Now only Field Trip PR2 / PT1 / PT2 are reserved. The person who would like to join these three Field Trips, please make the on-line reservation as soon as possible. The tour fee payment deadline will be postponed to June 30, 2008.

As for the attendees who have already arranged the payment for Field Trip PR1 / PT3 / PT4 / PT5 / PT6, the Secretariat will send you a notification and refund the full payment as soon as possible.

Information on payment by credit cards

Chinese regulation has stipulated that all payment within China should be in Chinese currency, which is RMB. In addition to regular wiring and check, the Local Organizing Committee of 14WCEE also accepts credit cards of Visa, MasterCard and American Express to pay for the fees of the Conference. Please be advised that the actual amount charged to your credit card will also include an extra small amount of bank fees for the transaction. Furthermore, due to the difficulty to reflect the real time change in currency exchange in our system, the Local Organizing Committee has decided to use a fixed amount of 2,800RMB for the registration fee until May 31, 2008.
