S03 Earthquake Risk in Low and Medium Seismicity Regions
Description :
The session brings together papers on hazard and vulnerability that is specifically derived for low and medium seismicity regions, such as the Central and Eastern United States, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia and many parts of China and other low and medium seismicity regions around the world. Provisions for seismic design are more influenced by regions of high seismicity and high ductility response. The special requirements of assessing low probability, potentially high impact earthquakes dictate a somewhat different research and development approach. The papers for the session are derived from the work of ANCER (Asia-Pacific Network of Centers in Earthquake Engineering Research); ANCER has concentrated for some years on these special earthquake risk problems and the papers reflect this experience.
