S11 Assessment and Rehabilitation of Historical Buildings

Description:
In this session various problems are treated, related to the seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of cultural heritage buildings, considered either as single monuments (religious buildings, palaces, towers, etc.) or as part of stratified and complex fabrics, like dwellings in historic towns. Methodologies for their assessment shall be presented, which look at historical objects with both a scientific-based (diagnostic) and a knowledge-based (documentary) approach. Traditional and innovative rehabilitation strategies and techniques will be dealt with, with a special emphasis on their overall seismic effectiveness while respecting the fundamental principle of minimum intervention.
