S27 IASPEI-IAEE Special session on“Dialogue Between Seismologist and Earthquake Engineers On Effective Earthquake Risk Reduction Implementation”

Earthquake risk is still growing, despite the great advancement of earthquake related science and technologies. In order to effectively reduce the earthquake risk, the closer cooperation and joint efforts is highly required. This session is intends to provide a forum for a discussions among the experts with the focus on:
 Creating an active dialogue and exchange know-how among all related specialist in the filed of earthquake risk management in order to ensure the effective implementation of earthquake risk reduction measures with the objective saving human life and resources; specially in the developing countries.
 Strengthening the existing Joint Commission of IAEE and IASPEI; especially the “International Alliance of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Professional Associations (IASEEPA)”. The objective of IASEEPA is determining what specific types of activities the world’s seismology and earthquake engineering professional societies could jointly undertake to better influence public policy and advocate seismic safety, internationally, in order to reduce earthquake losses.
 The role of IASPEI commission on Earthquake Hazard, Risk and Strong Motion toward the implementation of “IAEE Initiatives for Improvement of Earthquake Engineering Practice Worldwide” and “International Norm for Earthquake Risk reduction Program”.

The session is designed to help solving a situation that we are forced to see the reality of gigantic loss form earthquakes every year despite tremendous technological developments for disaster reduction.
