S29 Seismic Technologies for Rural Dwellings and Model Projects

Description:
Serious damage and collapse of dwellings with poor seismic capability are the major cause to make large casualties in rural areas during earthquakes around the world, especially in developing countries. For this reason, the special session on seismic technologies of rural dwellings and model projectswill organized during the 14th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. This special session will provide a very valuable chance to share knowledge and experience on the cases and mechanism of earthquake-induced damage, seismic technologies and new seismic material of rural dwellings, vernacular buildings and non-engineered constructions in earthquake-prone countries with the consideration of not only structure, engineering measurements, material, construction quality, but also local economic condition, traditional custom, culture, religions, climate and geography. In addition, introductions of various model projects for improving seismic capability of private houses, especially rural dwellings, supported by governments, non-governmental organizations, enterprises as well as individuals are encouraged in terms of techniques, managements, funds, laws and policies.
